New Developments in George Allen Smith Case…kinda

Well, we all held our breath for an hour while we waited for some huge piece of evidence to be dropped that would finally put someone on that cruise behind bars. Well at least I did! After another Dateline NBC special we still don’t know what happened to George Allen Smith on

board Royal Caribbeans’ Brilliance of the Seas. We do know know some more information on the whereabouts of some people, most notably Jennifer Hagel. Here is a quick overview of some of the new things we learned in this new episode of Dateline NBC “Overboard.”

• Jennifer Hagel was found passed out in a hallway and was taken back to her room by a crew member about an hour after George had dissapeared.
• The Russian Boys have claimed that they ordered a massive amount of food from room service, but Royal Caribbean records show that these orders never took place. (They used this “party” as their alibi.)
• Josh Ashkin, invoked his 5th Amendment right on about every question he was asked during his deposition, which leads me to believe that he is guilty. If someone asks you if you killed someone, and you didn’t, why wouldn’t you say no?
• A closer photograph of the blood stain on the lifeboat overhang shows a bloody hand print grasping the edge of the metal overhang, as if George Allen Smith was holding on for a second before falling into the ocean.

These new insights really don’t do much besides take some of the blame off of Jennifer Hagel, and put more of it on Josh Ashkin. We still don’t know what actually happened to George Allen Smith, and due to the number of people involved, conflicting stories, possible lies by one or more of the passengers, and/or Royal Caribbean…we may never know what happened to George Allen Smith.
